Less children interact with nature
This research is expected to become a benchmark for assessing the child's relationship with nature .
A recent study of charity RSPB said that most children in the UK spend experience with nature .
Research conducted over three years found that only 21 % of children aged eight to 12 years have a " relationship with nature " .
Girls are more easily connect with nature than boys . While the children in parts of Wales had the lowest score among the other regions in the UK .
RSPB says the perception of adults who feel that nature is a dangerous place or dirty can inhibit interaction between children and nature .
There is increasing research conducted recently which emphasizes the lack of contact and experience of modern children to the outside world .
Some say it menmberikan negative impacts on health , education , and their behavior .
Children are considered to have a relationship with nature if they appreciate living species.
In 2012 , the National Trust publishes reports on the phenomenon of " nature deficit disorder " ( or nature deficit disorder) , although it is not recognized as a medical condition .The influence of genderInteraction with nature
A child is said to have a " relationship " with nature when they :
have empathy for living things
regards itself as a unity with nature
have a sense of responsibility to the environment
can enjoy nature
RSPB says this study merypakan first quantitative measure to the scale of the lack of interaction between children and nature .
They define the meaning of " connect with nature " and then deploy the questionnaire containing 16 statements to assess the level of connectivity .
Approximately 1,200 children from across the UK were asked their opinions whether they agree or disagree with a statement .
Only 21 % of children in the UK who feel they have a relationship with nature and wildlife . Though RSPB believes the relationship with nature is actually realistic and can be felt by all the children .
One thing that is interesting is the difference between the sexes . While 27 % of girls have connectivity with nature , only 16% of boys who feel the same way .
" We need to understand this difference , " said Sue Armstrong - Brown , head of the charity told the BBC .
" Do men and women have very different scores in each question ? We analyze the data to find out more about this . Example, whether girls are more empathetic than men . "
