Several months ago the world was shocked because internet marketers Liberty Reserve (LR) which stores millions of people in the world were closed for allegedly facilitating money laundering. After investigation, ultimately uncovered this crime as well as what is done.
As reported by Mashable (19/10), Jean-Loup Richet, cyber security researchers from ESSEC Business School successfully dismantle cyber crime, known as cybercrime. The report is then revealed to the public and sent to the relevant UN agencies, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
In its report, Richet writes that cyber crime had long since grown. Ways in which the actors are also more modern and creative in order to avoid the pursuit of cyber cops, one of them by washing their funds.
First , the perpetrators of crimes such as carding ( stealing someone else's credit card online ) take the money and save it directly through personal accounts . However , these funds are now diverted to the account first online money changer .
Through trusted money exchange services the money is then replaced in the form of electronic currency like Liberty Rerserve . From LR are then diverted the funds again in the form of virtual credit cards , vouchers , or exchanged through other services such as Western Union .
Actually , the discovery of this method itself is not too horrendous . This is because the method has become common knowledge among actors and observers of cybercrime .
The U.S. government itself and then try to stop this action by closing LR because of where the money laundering transactions could not be traced . However , according to Richet , it will not stop them because there are many other similar services such as WebMoney LR , Bitcoins , Paymer , PerfectMoney , and much more .
